Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Diplomacy

Introduction

The contemporary global arena presents numerous challenges, which require an in depth understanding of the existing opportunities and challenges. This Programme equips students with relevant knowledge and tools to understand and solve national, sub-regional, regional, and international issues.

Programme Objective

To contribute towards the development of international affairs practitioners who are knowledgeable, innovative, dynamic, and globally competitive.

Justification/

Rationale

The programme is justified. Most of the international relations Bachelors programmes offered in Kenya and in the region take a traditional approach to international affairs – one that focuses on war and peace, strategy and foreign policy. What the country and the region needs is a robust and flexible approach that equips students with advanced analytical tools and substantive background to understand a wide range of political, social, and economic aspects of global affairs. The modern international relations require multiple approaches and methods, with opportunities for exposure to a wide array of subfields, including regional and international politics, trends in modern diplomacy, media and international affairs, sustainable international development, political theory, conflict studies and more.
