Bachelor of Security Science and Management

Introduction

The Programme is designed to equip security professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop, implement, and manage security operations that contribute to organizational success.  Topics covered include risk and threat assessment and management, security policies and procedures, and incident management among others.

Programme Objective

The objective of the Programme is to provide professional training to learners on evidence-based approaches in security analysis and management to address contemporary security concerns effectively and efficiently.

Justification/

Rationale

A study by the Department in 2019 found out that there is need to focus on building foundational skills for anticipating and mitigating modern challenges, including corporate fraud, organized crime, transnational crime, drug and substance abuse, and violent extremism, rather than solely understanding the causes and dynamics of crime. The focus includes strategies to effectively manage emerging security threats at individual, organizational, community, and national levels. The Programme aims at enhancing the knowledge and skills of security practitioners, enabling them to tackle emerging security and correctional threats and challenges. These include issues such as corporate fraud, human trafficking, smuggling of illicit firearms, terrorism and violent extremism, drug trafficking, as well as the rehabilitation, containment, and reintegration of offenders. Additionally, this program offers opportunities for practitioners in the field, as well as other eligible individuals who wish to advance their studies in security and correction management.
