  1. Course Code and Overview

The Diploma in Communication and Media Studies is a foundational programme that equips students with essential knowledge and skills in modern communication and media practices. It introduces learners to the basics of journalism, public relations, digital communication, and media production. The course blends theoretical instruction with hands-on practice, preparing students for entry-level roles in the communication and media industry or further academic study.

  1. Rationale

Effective communication is central to modern society, shaping public opinion, policy, culture, and commerce. With the rapid growth of media technologies and platforms, there is a need for skilled practitioners who can create, manage, and analyse media content. This diploma programme addresses that demand by nurturing capable communicators for the digital age.

  1. Objectives

The diploma aims to:

  • Provide foundational knowledge in communication principles and media operations.
  • Introduce basic journalism, public relations, and media production techniques.
  • Develop practical skills in writing, reporting, editing, and multimedia communication.
  • Encourage ethical and responsible media practices.

  1. Mode of Delivery

Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • KCSE mean grade of C (Minus) or its equivalent.
  • A certificate in a relevant field from a recognised institution may also be considered.
