INTRODUCTION

The Master of Arts programme is carefully designed to apply philosophical theories and principles to interrogate and confront problems, challenges and dilemmas that arise in everyday life, academic and professional context. The programme is designed to develop important skills, knowledge and values in humanities that are responsive to social, economic and political needs of the twenty first century.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

The main objective of this programme is to produce graduates with the skills and competencies required by the fast changing life in the twenty first century. In particular, the programme aims at producing people who are broad and open-minded, with critical and creative skills, high moral and ethical values and responsive to societal needs.

JUSTIFICATION/RATIONALE

Life in the twenty first century poses many novel and dynamic challenges but also opportunities, which require key skills and values and competencies. This programme, taking cognizance of this fact is designed to enhance key competencies, skills and values such as: critical thinking and problem solving, creativity and innovation and self-efficacy. The product of this programme will be a self-reliant, autonomous thinker with critical and creative insights on diverse issues, be they political, social and economic at both national and international levels.

ENTRY REQUIREMNTS

To qualify for admission to the Master of Arts (Philosophy) programme the applicant should have attained at least:

  1. Second Class Honors degree in Philosophy at undergraduate level from any recognized institution of higher learning

                                   OR

  1. Lower second class in philosophy at undergraduate level with a two-year post-graduation relevant working experience.

 

MODE AND STRUCTURE OF DELIVERY

Mode of delivery of the Programme

The mode of delivery of this programme will be blended learning, which involves both face-to face interactions and online teaching and activities on Kusoma online teaching platform. The programme is currently offered only on regular mode of study.

The programme takes two academic years.

Year 2: research

  • Development of research proposal and Thesis writing
